choice vs. emotion

Question:

Is true love a choice or an emotion? Everyone says that you can't base realtionships (not limited to romantic ones) off of love alone, but I've been doing some thinking and I have my doubts as to the validity of that statement. I believe the greatest things mankind has to offer such as love, forgiveness, compassion, etc. are all choices; and in the particular cases when emotions come into play none of these gifts are in their purest forms. I also believe contentment is a choice; it wouldn't make sense to me if the greatest things in life were purely emotional becuase I for one have never been able to will myself to "feel" anything. Hmmm...perhaps that's just me though.
